Our work investigates how institutional and researcher practices, infrastructure, and policy shape research data management and sharing (DMS). Taking a science of science approach, we examine the systems that enable, or hinder, effective and sustainable data management and sharing. One area of active study focuses on the real-world expenses and workflows involved in supporting DMS. By surfacing the financial, technical, and organizational factors at play, we aim to inform more transparent and strategic approaches across the academic landscape.
